Bongo's Bingo Charity of the Month

The Florrie

June 9, 2023

We are extremely proud to introduce you to a charity that is not only close to our hearts but close to the hearts of thousands of people in local communities in and around south Liverpool:

The Florrie

The Florrie is a charity that has been at the heart of the L8 community for over 130 years. Their stunning, Grade II-listed, Victorian community arts & heritage venue is a social, cultural, educational & charitable hub for the people of Liverpool. Our multi-use venue hosts a massive range of programmes, events & activities for the community throughout the year.

These include:

Community Hub Activities

The Florrie hosts over 30 hours of activities every week for people to get involved with. This includes everything from music & arts activities like The Florrie Guitar which has well over 100 members to fitness & mental health activities like our weekly Mens Walking Group. Throughout the year they help people from across the city to meet new people, learn new skills & have fun!

The Florrie Food Support Programme

This helps people & families across Liverpool who may be struggling with food poverty with our Community Shop, Café & Holiday Hunger Programme. The Florrie Community Shop provides people access to affordable groceries, toiletries, baby products & clothing. Their Café is ran by volunteers & provides affordable snacks whilst raising money for the charity. The Holiday Hunger scheme provides hot meals for children throughout the school holidays when many are missing out on free school meals.

Youth Hub

The Florrie’s Youth Hub is a creative and educational space for young people offering a range of activities, events, opportunities and support.  It is focused around holiday hunger support, school holiday activities & trips, & seasonal events like our Halloween Displays & Christmas grottos.

Community Events

Throughout the year they host lots of events for their community including exhibitions, gigs, celebrations, & fundraisers. Some of their biggest events over the past year have been Food Aid Liverpool ( a fundraising festival for community food spaces across Liverpool with over 30 acts across 4 stages), An Evening with the Screenwriters (A Q&A with Ricky Tomlinson and some of the UK’s biggest TV screenwriters), & The Courtyard Sessions (a series of outdoor gigs promoting local artists from across Liverpool). For info on upcoming events head to their site  www.theflorrie.org

Florrie Radio

Broadcasting 24/7 from their in-house studio at The Florrie, they offer local people of all ages a platform to learn new skills, express themselves, & openly share their voices & opinions through online radio, as well as highlighting the best new music Liverpool has to offer.
